The 2012 Akron Poetry Prize is open for submissions until June 15 via The University of Akron Press.

“Davis Dozen” to Be Arraigned Thursday, DA to Offer Plea Bargain

This morning, Harriet brought the wider poetry community news of poet/professor Joshua Clover’s pending arraignment for his involvement in a US Bank “shutdown” on the UC-Davis campus that began in January. Clover, along with 11 students (dubbed “The Davis Dozen”), staged a teach-in and other protests against the collusion between the public university and the private commercial enterprise, after which the campus branch of the bank was subsequently closed.

The Yolo County district attorney’s office plans to charge Clover and the students with 20 counts each of obstructing movement …

Susan Briante is the author of two full-length collections of poetry from Ahsahta Press, Pioneers in the Study of Motion (2007) and Utopia Minus (2011). Her writing has appeared in Ploughshares, Court Green, Painted Bride Quarterly, Creative Non-Fiction, and other journals. She is an Associate Professor of Writing and Literature at UT-Dallas.
