Chicago Poetry Center Revives ‘Poets Look at Paintings’

Over four decades ago, the Poetry Center in Chicago organized a live event called Poets Look at Paintings. The event was held at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Recently, however, the connection between writers and visual artists seems to wane. The Poetry Center intends to promote change in this regard with their revival of Poets Look at Paintings.

A reworked Poets Look at Paintings event will be presented in November, and the Poetry Center seeks poems “rooted in visual art in some way, whether that be in response to a piece, in narration, in action, in reflection, etc.,” according to an article inĀ Gapers Block. Those interested in submitting their work for the event and participating in a live reading must send in their ekphrastic poems before September 21. Find out the submission details here.

The event will take place on November 18th rom 6 to 7pm at the Garland room in Chicago’s Cultural Center. The event is free and open to the public.
