English performance poet, John Cooper Clarke, has completed a short Q&A with Glenn Meads of Whats On Stage. In the interview, Clarke, who has been called “the punk poet,” discusses his influences and obsessions.
When asked who has influenced him, Clarke responds, “Who hasn’t? I’m an indiscriminate kleptomaniac where poetry’s concerned. Delivery-wise, Sir Peter O’Sullivan is paramount.” Clarke also rejects Meads’ use of the term “roots,” saying it reeks of “rural ancestor worship.”
Currently on his autumn tour, Clarke’s next performance is scheduled for November 14th in Liverpool at Camp and Furnace. Learn more about Clarke here.
