KGB Monday Night Poetry Returns for Its 37th Season

On Monday February 2nd, the KGB Monday Night Poetry series will kick off its 37th season in the East Village.

The historic series is in its 19th year, and this season’s exciting lineup was released earlier this week. The season opener features Patricia Smith and Saeed Jones. The spring schedule boasts some poetry heavy hitters such as Carol Muske Dukes and Billy Collins. The series co-founder Star Black will also take to the stage midseason. It’s an excellent schedule this spring with each reading’s bill as impressive as the one before.

Many loyal KGB attendees will, no doubt, be glad to see the annual Post-AWP open mic competition on the schedule for the third consecutive year. On this special evening, poets are invited to sign-up for an open mic, at which they are given roughly two minutes to deliver a poem. The audience submits anonymous score cards rating the poets’ performances, and the winner is awarded a short guest slot at the reading of their choice the following season.
