Just to be near him: happy 200th to Tennyson
The former home of 19th century British poet and socialite Lord Alfred Tennyson, which spent nearly a century as a hotel, has been renovated into a museum, according to Guardian. The museum opens today, Tennyson’s 200th birthday, and celebrates an age when this beloved and elusive Gatsby hosted scads of A-list guests.
In raw Tennysonian fashion, the museum will host a party tonight. The party room and library have been completely restored, including a hidden staircase in the corner where LAT could “flee visitors.” The poet was awfully popular in his day, and apparently everyone wanted to be seen at the Isle of Wight home, including Prince Albert, who once left a party “with a bunch of primroses from [Tennyson's] garden.” Wild times.
