Georgia poet James May has been selected as a 2012 Ruth Lilly Poetry Fellowship finalist. The competition is open to all United States poets between twenty-one years to thirty-one years of age. Each of the five recipients is awarded $15,000. The Poetry Foundation and Poetry magazine will announce this year’s winners by September 1. The 2011 fellowships recipients were Olivia Clare, T. Zachary Colter, Farnoosh Fathi, Allison Seay, and Marcus Wicker.
May lives in Decatur with his wife, the poet Chelsea Rathburn. His poetry has recently appeared or is forthcoming in Five Points, Green Mountains Review, New England Review, The New Republic, and Pleiades. He teaches at Agnes Scott College, where he serves as the college’s writer-in-residence.
