After 10 years as Executive Editor of Poetry magazine, Christian Wiman will resign from the post in June to teach at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music and Yale Divinity School, according to a release from The Poetry Foundation.
Wiman took the helm shortly after Ruth Lilly endowed the magazine with nearly $200 million. According to the release, Wiman “increased circulation threefold; oversaw a complete redesign of the magazine; began publishing essays from well-known writers, musicians, and other non-poets about their relationship to poetry in ‘The View from Here’ section; and commissioned long-form journalism from respected poets, among other accomplishments.”
The Poetry Foundation will search for Wiman’s successor this spring. Here is a video of Wiman discussing a recent anthology celebrating Poetry‘s centennial.
