Poets House opening on horizon
The heavy lifting is done, and Poets House will open its doors at its new Battery Park City location on Sept. 25 and 26. The weekend celebration on the banks of the Hudson will feature readings by Billy Collins, Quincy Troupe, Philip Levine, Marie Ponsot, Mark Doty, Galway Kinnell, Marie Howe and others. Natalie Merchant will also perform. Poets House, founded by Stanley Kunitz (pictured) and Elizabeth Kray, is among the largest open libraries of poetry in the world, carrying more than 50,000 volumes of poetry – a collection added to by the thousands each year.
