NYU Honors Life & Work of Philip Levine


On Thursday September 24, New York University’s Creative Writing Program will celebrate the legacy of poet Philip Levine.

The event will feature Kate Daniels, Toi Derricotte, Juan Felipe Herrera, Edward Hirsch, Yusef Komunyakaa, Mari L’Esperance, Dorianne Laux, Paul Mariani, Jane Mead, Tomás Q. Morín, Sharon Olds, Tom Sleigh, David St. John, and Gerald Stern. Scheduled to begin at 7:00pm in The Cooper Union at 7 East 7th Street, the event will be cosponsored by the Academy of American Poets; Cave Canem Foundation; the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art; Poetry and Literature Center, Library of Congress; Penguin Random House; the Poetry Society of America; Poets House; Queens College; the Unterberg Poetry Center of the 92nd Street Y.

Philip Levine lived from 1928 until earlier this year. He was a “Distinguished Poet-in Residence at the NYU Creative Writing Program for over fifteen years.”
