Sharon Olds wins Pulitzer
“When anyone escapes, my heart / leaps up. Even when it’s I who am escaped from”
Sharon Olds has won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for her collection Stag’s Leap. Olds, generally considered one of America’s leading poets, won the National Book Critics Circle Award in 1984 for The Dead and The Living. Stag’s Leap was also awarded the T.S. Eliot Prize in 2012. Other nominees were Bruce Weigl for The Abundance of Nothing and the late Jack Gilbert for Collected Poems.
Olds is scheduled to read at the KGB Bar in New York City’s East Village with Michael Dickman this Monday, April 22.
