Seattle Poetry Events: Sharks, Bumbershoot and a Book Party
As the summer winds to a close (say it ain’t so!), APRIL is hosting a duel movie screening/poetry reading at Northwest Film Forum, 1515 12th Ave. Beginning at 7 p.m. tonight, Aug. 29, the event will feature a poetry reading by Zachary Schomburg, a screening of Jaws and beers from Naked City Brewery.

This weekend’s Bumbershoot Festival features a range of literary events, including a number of appearances by local poets.
Saturday, Aug. 31 at 4 p.m., Seattle Arts and Lectures presents the “Lunchbox Podcast Live,” co-hosted by poet Ed Skoog and fiction writer J. Robert Lennon. The event will feature the poetry of Matthew Dickman and Sarah Galvin, as well as music from Abilene Slim.
Monday at 4 p.m., Writers in the Schools will feature a reading focusing on “compound words” (such as “bumbershoot”), which will include readings from students of the program and a group of WITS Teaching Artists, including Sierra Nelson, Rachel Kessler, Daemond Arrindell and Katie Ogle.
Next week at Richard Hugo House, poet and visual artist Shin Yu Pai will release her book of poems and photographs, Aux Arcs (La Alameda Press).
The event will begin at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 4, and will feature a set of acoustic music from Whiting Tennis, who also designed the book’s cover.
