Celebrate NYC Pride: Writing Aloud Reading Series

Celebrate NYC Pride with NY Writers Coalition’s Writing Aloud Reading Series! Now in its tenth season, this quarterly event unites NYWC’s community of writers and activists with some of the nation’s most prominent literary figures. This month’s installment features poet and playwright Joan Larkin and celebrates the official book launch of Still Practicing: Poetry & Prose from SAGE (NY Writers Coalition Press, 2014).

Please join NYWC and Services and Advocacy for Gay, Lesbian and Transgender Elders (SAGE) on Wednesday, June 25 @ 7:00-9:00 p.m. at 305 7th Avenue, 15th Floor. Light refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public.

22nd Annual Poets House Showcase

Join us for the opening of the 22nd annual Poets House Showcase, a free exhibit featuring all of the new poetry books and poetry-related texts published in the United States in a single year from over 650 commercial, university, and independent presses. There is no better way to get an overview of the art.

Opening Reading with Meena Alexander, Jennifer Michael Hecht, David Lehman, and Rachel Zucker immediately follows.

This diverse and inclusive exhibition will be on view through August 16





Poetry on View: Readings from the Carter Burden Collection

As part of the Academy of American Poets’ summer series, award-winning poets Elaine Equi, J.D. McClatchy, and Charles Simic join in an evening of readings with commentary on selected works by authors featured in The Morgan’s exhibition, Gatsby to Garp: Modern Masterpieces from the Carter Burden Collection, which includes Gertrude Stein, Edna St. Vincent Millay, William Carlos Williams, Langston Hughes and others.
