Virginia Poet Joshua Poteat Wins $10k Poetry Prize


According to The Richmond Times- Dispatch‘s Jay Strafford, Virginia poet Joshua Poteat has won the prestigious Carole Weinstein Prize in Poetry for 2015.

The prize carries a $10,000 cash award, which Poteat will receive on October 17th, when Richmond celebrates its annual Literary Awards at the Library of Virginia. This is not the first of Poteat’s impressive awards. He also won the 2014 National Poetry Series prize for The Regret Histories.

By day, Poteat is an editor at The Martin Agency in Richmond. He is also the author of Illustrating the Machine That Makes the World: From J.G. Heck’s 1851 Pictorial Archive of Nature and Science as well as several chapbooks including For the Animal and Meditations.
